Something Different Duo to kick off 2019-2020 Rhythm by the River series

Something Different Duo, a father-daughter team from Gloucester, will perform on Sunday, October 27 at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Rd., Gloucester Point.  The concert is presented by the George Nelson Memorial Concert Series.

The duo, featuring Ashley Wenner on vocals and “Dad Brad” Sindle on keyboards, has performed regularly in the area for over six years.  Their repertoire ranges from old jazz standards, through the music of the 70’s, to current artists.

A vocal music graduate of Shenandoah College, Ashley is a stay-at-home mom and has performed with Good Shot Judy and the Courthouse Players.  Her voice is often compared to Nora Jones.  Brad, who has played with the popular band “Slapnation” for 15 years, credits his daughter for pushing him to practice and learn new music, and YouTube for much of his current musical instruction. The duo takes pride in offering a low-volume, easy listening program rich in variety.

Admission to the concert is free.  Donations will be accepted.  Other concerts planned for the 2019-2020 season include:

November 24, 2019 – Rudy Shackelford, Piano & Organ
March 22, 2020 – Bagels & Fraylox Klezmer Band
April 19, 2020 – Norfolk Street Choir

Caregiver Support Group — 1st Thursday of the Month

A CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association meets the first Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. in the Mary Lotsey Classroom.    The monthly meetings, conducted by trained facilitators, provide a safe place for caregivers, family and friends of persons with dementia to develop a support system, exchange practical information on care giving challenges and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways of coping, share feelings, needs and concerns, and learn about community resources. Do you know of someone who could benefit from this group?   Please let them know of this opportunity.  For more information, email aburner@cox.net or call the church office at 804-642-2110.

Life happens and sometimes we are unable to attend church but that doesn’t mean we have to miss a blessing!

If you are unable to attend worship on Sunday, you can still listen to Pastor Mike’s sermons by clicking HERE.   You can also read the bulletin on line by clicking HERE.  Even if you are on the go you can still be “in the know”!

Hope to see you in church this Sunday.  Bring a friend!
